The Preschool Director
and teachers are ready for
some fun!

St. John's Preschool is located in the Education Building of St. John's Episcopal Church at 830 Durham, Wake Forest, NC. Preschool hours are from 9:15am to 12:15pm. The school year begins at the end of August and ends the third week of May. Chapel is held for three and four year olds every other week. An optional Lunch Bunch is offered on Wednesdays and Thursdays for three and four year olds.

St. John's Preschool is a ministry of St. John's Episcopal Church for families in the Wake Forest area. It is a place where children are loved and nurtured in a safe, secure environment. Children learn to cooperate, respect others, respect differences, grow spiritually, and develop confidence in their abilities. We strive to provide opportunities for children to explore, to be creative, and to be good stewards of all that God has given us. We welcome children of all races and faiths and recognize and respect differences in religious preferences.

We believe that effective early childhood education is determined by an understanding of children's ages and developmental needs, their culture, their abilities and their natural curiosity about themselves and their environment. By being responsive to the changing needs of the children and their interests, our staff offers a child-centered program which includes teacher-directed and child-initiated activities. We use many "hands-on" learning experiences which stimulate all areas of development, cognitive, language, fine motor, gross motor, social-emotional, and spiritual growth.
The curriculum at St. John's is thematically-based and integrates music, art, drama, and storytelling. For the younger children we incorporate learning experiences during routine care as well as provide a stimulating environment with age-appropriate toys and activities. For older preschoolers we organize activities around appropriate themes, units, or projects. Our goal ultimately is to prepare them for Kindergarten.

Children do display and will occasionally be exposed to aggressive behavior. Our staff uses various behavior management techniques to limit and correct such behavior and to help children learn acceptable behavior and self-control. Appropriate to their age, we may redirect the child to another activity, encourage problem solving to work out conflicts between themselves, and if necessary, use the "time-out" technique.

Priority Registration (click here for a detailed document)

Priority registration is for members of St. John's Episcopal Church, current students and their siblings, and children of staff members. The remaining spaces for the general public will be assigned based on a lottery selection. Priority registration begins in late January, with registration for the general public thereafter.
A nonrefundable registration fee of one month's tuition is charged when a child is registered for an existing space in the school for the following year. Children are enrolled in their age group based on a birthday on or before August 31st, which conforms to the Wake County Public School Policy. (The one year olds must be 15 mo. old by August 31st as well.) After registration is complete, a waiting list is made for each age class. (The waiting lists are good for the following school year only.) When an opening becomes available, the opening is filled based on a lottery selection.
For the 2008-2009 school year, tuition will be due one month in advance. The first payment will be due August 1st. Children enrolled in the four year old program must be fully potty trained. Questions concerning enrollment procedures should be directed to the preschool office. In order to complete the enrollment process, the following must be completed:

  • Registration fee (one month's tuition)
  • Application form
  • Medical form and copy of immunization record. This information must be on file at the Preschool before the child can enter school. No exemptions are allowed.
  • A copy of the child's birth certificate
